    Adjusted for working days, industrial output went up by 0.8 per cent in May 2019 year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted output in turn fell by 0.9 per cent from the month before. According to revised data, working-day adjusted output rose in April by 1.8 per cent (previously 2.8 per cent) from April 2018.

    Building costs rose by 0.6 per cent in June year-on-year

    According to Statistics Finland, building costs rose by 0.6 per cent in June 2019 compared with the previous year's June. The prices of labour inputs and services increased by 0.9 per cent. The prices of materials went up by 0.3 per cent from June 2018.

    The current account was in surplus in May. The value of goods exports in balance of payments terms grew by four per cent from one year ago. There was net capital outflow from Finland to abroad. The data appear from Statistics Finland's statistics on balance of payments and international investment position.

    Inflation 1.0 per cent in June

    The year-on-year change in consumer prices calculated by Statistics Finland was 1.0 per cent in June. In May inflation stood at 1.2 per cent. The decline in inflation was caused by lower prices of petrol, for example.

    Turnover in manufacturing grew by 3.0 per cent in May

    According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in manufacturing (TOL BCD) increased in May by 3.0 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year. Among the main manufacturing industries, growth in working day adjusted turnover was strongest in the chemical industry, 14.9 per cent, and in the industry of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, 12.8 per cent. By contrast, seasonally adjusted turnover in manufacturing (TOL BCD) decreased slightly, by 0.9 per cent from April.

    Turnover of trade went down by 0.7 per cent in May

    According to Statistics Finland, the working day adjusted turnover of total trade went down by 0.7 per cent in May compared to May 2018. Development was clearly weakest in motor vehicle trade, while annual changes in the turnover of wholesale trade and retail trade remained close to zero. The working day adjusted sales volume, from which the impact of price changes has been eliminated, decreased altogether by 1.6 per cent in May.

    According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 206,300 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard during January to June 2019, which is 2,400 cases (1.1 per cent) fewer than in January to June 2018. A total of 94,700 offences against property were recorded, which figure is unchanged from the year before. In all, 20.4 per cent more rapes were reported than in the corresponding period in the previous year.

    Statistics Finland releases data on the background of persons who voted in the European Parliament elections 2019. The voting percentage of Finnish citizens resident in Finland was 42.7 which is 1.7 percentage points higher than in the previous European Parliament elections.     Turnover and output in services grew in May

    Working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 4.5 per cent in May 2019 from May 2018. Service output i.e. volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 3.3 per cent over the same period. In April 2019, turnover reached a growth of 7.4 per cent, while volume then went up by 5.8 per cent from one year back. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

    Turnover of construction grew by 2.5 per cent in May, but sales volume decreased

    In May 2019, working day adjusted turnover grew and growth was achieved in all industries of construction, but the sales volume declined by 1.6 per cent year-on-year. The weak development in building construction pushed the sales volume of total construction downward. Turnover grew most rapidly in civil engineering, by 7.4 per cent year-on-year, and measured by sales volume it was the only growing industry in construction.

    Wages and salaries sum grew by 3.7 per cent year-on-year in January to March

    According to Statistics Finlands data, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 3.7 per cent greater in the January to March period than in the corresponding period twelve months earlier. In March, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 2.7 per cent from the year before. One year previously in January to March, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy increased by 4.7 per cent. No February and March figures will be published for the public sector, so they are not included in the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy for February and March.

    Industrial output decreased in May both year-on-year and from the month before

    Seasonally adjusted industrial output (TOL BCD) fell by 2.8 per cent in May from the month before. According to Statistics Finland, industrial output adjusted for working days was 0.3 per cent lower in May 2019 than in May 2018. During January to May, working day adjusted output went up by 1.6 per cent from the year before.

    New orders in manufacturing grew by 3.4 per cent year-on-year in May

    According to Statistics Finland, the value of new orders in manufacturing was 3.4 per cent higher in May 2019 than twelve months earlier. During January to May, orders grew by 2.3 per cent from the year before. Orders have grown continuously for six months.

    Total amount of waste decreased in 2017

    The total amount of waste decreased to approximately 117 million tonnes in 2017. The drop is mainly caused by a decrease in waste from mining and quarrying compared with 2016. The share of mineral mining, quarrying and processing in the total amount of waste generated was close on 89 million tonnes of surface soil, waste stone and dressing sand.

    Value of industrial output EUR 91.9 billion in 2018

    According to Statistics Finland's statistics on industrial output, the value of the sold output of industry (branches B: Mining and quarrying and C: Manufacturing) amounted to EUR 91.9 billion in 2018. The value of the sold output of industry grew by 6.5 per cent from the previous year.
